How to waste your career
The Daily Drip
Here's a powerful little graph someone shared with me recently:
You've probably read my post about the Death Bed Timer--my way to introducing urgency into the style and pace at which I live my life.
This chart does something similar and probably better: it shows you what % of your life you're sacrificing as you continue to move in a direction you don't want to go or to work at a job you hate.
Every day, the number of days we have left goes down. That makes it gradually more and more important to do the things that matter the most to us.
It seems that most people wait until this important realization becomes urgent to then take action.
If you're not already checking in with yourself, try setting a smartphone reminder to schedule time to do the math, work on that project you've been meaning to get to, or just to reflect.
Personally, I check in with myself on a quarterly basis (every 90 days) to re-assess if what I'm doing is working for me. I also have a slew of iOS reminders that ask me if I'm making progress on my goals so I don't let too much time slip by.
You have all the tools you need.
Tag me in Slack if you need an accountabilibuddy or want to unpack this more.
Here's the link to the original post, which I think you should read, too.
