There are two wolves fighting inside you
The Daily Drip
When I was a kid, my mom told me a story that someone in her family told her.
I thought it was an Apache proverb because my mom's side has some Mescalero Apache blood.
I think it's actually a Cherokee proverb, but I guess that's not important.
Years later, I took the story and the words and recast it as a poem.
I hope this sparks some meaning for you:
there was once an old apache chief
speaking to his kin
boy there’re two wolves fighting inside you and only one will win
one stands for truth and love
the other for pain and greed
and when the boy asked which wolf would win the chief said
the one you feed
