Welcome to Strategic Altruism where I wrestle with entrenched ideals and philosophies to form mostly unpopular opinions about how to be a good person. It's a racket.
You’ve heard of Effective Altruism, which is pretty great—but this publication is less about the tactical side of making good things happen. It’s about pulling up the floorboards of our self-narratives, habits, and ways of being so that we can set ourselves up on paths toward consistent acts of kindness.
Strategic Altruism is for thoughtful people who are tired of the tautological truisms and meaningless idioms that plague the internet.
This is about being curious, speaking the truth, and taking action on the few essential things that matter.
Every once in a while, you’ll get thoughtful blog posts about what I’ve learned about leadership, neuroscience, and social impact.
Who is Chris Danilo?
My background is in neuroscience, child development, and project management.
I’ve co-managed a developmental neuroscience lab at Penn State. I’ve co-managed a software company building world-class algorithms for classified clients. I’ve consulted with ed-tech startups. I’ve built the event-production operating system for massive, nationally-touring LEGO® and MINECRAFT® events for kids.
Right now, I’m working hard to get Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) into schools.
I’ve been blogging about productivity, social impact, and neuroscience for years. I’d love to share what I’ve learned on my journey with you.
Some things you might not know about me just by looking at my picture:
I’ve done 30+ live TV segments on FOX, ABC, and NBC.
I’ve co-authored a few publications in the academic child-development and decision-making literature.
Last year I logged over 350 hours of endurance training. This year I’m shooting for 400.
Another fun fact: I once had to escort a famous YouTuber out of my Minecraft show in LA (with the LAPD)—you can ask me about it on Substack Chat or Notes.
