Using feedback loops to follow your dreams
The Daily Drip
"Just stay positive" and "just keep your head up" don't help.
Neither do "You just need to keep going" or "have you tried having a better attitude?"
Instead of treating ourselves like robots who clock-in and clock-out of our various, programmed routines, it's more effective (and more fun) to think about our work and our lives from a behaviorist perspective.
Stimulus.
Action.
Reward.
The coveted feedback loop that is responsible for the majority of human behavior.
Yep, that's it. How will you apply this to the things you don't want to do? How might you set up a system so that you're not constantly relying on your own willpower?
Listerine doesn't need to sting. Soap doesn't need to foam up. Buttons on a website don't need to change color.
These are just elements of feedback to help people know "it's working."
What feedback will you build into your life, work, or journey to make sure you're pointing your habits in the direction of your dreams?
