A thought to manage overwhelm and burnout
The Daily Drip
As I get older, I learn more about myself.
I learn more about what I value, what I hate, and my tendencies.
Over the last few weeks, I've noticed that my eating habits, exercise, work hours, and attitude have all been a little off.
After introspecting a bit this week, I realized that I've been teetering on the edge of burnout.
Symptoms?
Bad eating habits.
Poor sleeping.
Anxiety that stays with me throughout the day.
Low exercise.
That "slump" of depression feeling.
Escaping from the feeling of overwhelm
So, now what?
Yes, we know the obvious solutions. Eat better. Get more sleep. Avoid alcohol. Blah blah blah.
Just because we KNOW what to do doesn't mean that it's easy to actually do these things.
Here's something that I'm doing that I've never done before:
Taking a long break to do whatever it is that makes me come alive.
It doesn't have to a weeklong vacation. For me, it's literally going to be me taking completely off from all work this weekend, which is a bit unusual.
The distance from the world helps get my brain and body back to a state where I start to feel more like myself.
The next important part is the transition back into the stress. Approaching it with a fresh mind and renewed attitude can help but accepting that I might slump back into this same position is important.
This is the journey.
Accepting where we are is the first barrier to moving forward.
Happy Friday the 13th and I hope you have a restful and rejuvenating weekend.
