Catastrophic, black and white thinking
The Daily Drip
I have tendonitis.
It's basically an athletic overuse injury. It means I worked some tendons a little harder than I should have and now they're not recovering well.
The remedy is lots of rest, ice, and some compression.
Ugh. That means my whole running schedule is off.
What's worse than the setback is what happened when I realized I was injured. Instead of saying "okay, well, this is going to take some time to heal. What exercises can I do instead of running?" I said, "okay, well, I guess I can't run."
That was it. I made the classic error of mistaking a hurdle for a roadblock.
Resilience and what's now called the "growth mindset" is the habit of adjusting the course and resetting goals to what's feasible and achievable.
The catastrophic, black and white thinking that I did? Not helpful.
Of course, none of us are perfect, but I felt like this little reminder might help you fight a little harder.
Have a fabulous weekend.
