Yesterday, I let the little things get me down.
Have you ever had one of those days?
Everything is frustrating. Everything is breaking. Everything is slow.
Yes, sure, it's "all in our minds" to some degree--but that doesn't help the frustration go away when we're feeling it.
You know what helps?
Finding things for which to be grateful.
Calling an old friend and talking about both the good and the bad.
Zooming out and looking at the big picture.
Managing emotions and being resilient in the moment is difficult to practice if you're bad at it. These tactics help your brain start practicing those thoughts at all. Eventually, the distance between your recovery thoughts and the frustration you experienced will be closer and closer.
You will never have a 100% hit rate--but you can improve.
That's resilience.
And I still have a lot of practice to do.
