Labor Day didn't happen by itself
The Daily Drip
Labor Day wasn't always celebrated in the US.
Oregon was the first state to adopt the idea and then, even when Grover Cleveland signed the holiday into action, it was only for federal workers.
Unions started strikes to make sure their workers were celebrated, too.
It seems so small, to have a day off, but the fight was real.
Even such small changes can come at such big costs from the people.
What's important about a day like this is remembering those who fought for it. Their fight wasn't a military war--it was a political, and legal war.
They've gifted us this day and set the stage for each of us to be inspired to fight for what we believe is the right thing.
Happy Labor Day.
