Yesterday, I mentioned perspective and reframing.
Just to further illustrate this point, here's an example of how perspective can literally make two people who are seeing the same thing believe they are seeing different things.
Here's a classic example that's used in neuroscience:
Take a close look at the image on the left. See squares "A" and "B?"
See how they look like completely different colors?
Now, of course, you already know the punchline.
You can see in the image on the right how they are actually the exact same color, but just appear different when in different contexts.
This doesn't just work for color or art. It works for other parts of our lives as well.
This works in religion, politics, marketing, and grocery store prices.
Steve Jobs used to tell you what a great value the iPod was when he said "it's not $999, it's not $899, it's an amazing value of $799!!"
Also, the whole ".99" thing is totally the same idea.
