How do you categorize information?
The Daily Drip
Much of success seems to be understanding information and using it to your advantage.
Here are some quick categories of information that might be useful:
Rules
Self-imposed guidelines and values for operation.
When you follow them, you either feel good or you just don't feel bad. When you break them, you feel dishonest or like you've betrayed yourself. Having a relationship of trust in yourself is critical to future accomplishments. These are different from societal rules, which may not have any bearing on what you believe.
Truths
World-imposed realities that, if ignored, will result in a poor result.
When you face them, your picture of reality is clear and so is your mind. When you misunderstand them, your picture of reality is warped and you probably don't even know. These are dangerous, but misunderstanding truths doesn't preclude success. Fake news is an example of how this can go awry but those plagued by it can still achieve what they want in life.
Tips
What to do in specific situations.
These are small insights that help you fit in or make you look like you have deeper expertise than you do. The only downside is that they're not transferable from situation to situation. Different context transforms utility big time.
Cheat Codes
Tricks that help you sway the odds or get disproportionate results.
These are often small and easy to implement. When you use them, others often think you are more masterful than you are--and that's part of the allure. Small efforts that get you big or quick results. People generally love these.
These are just a few. There are also important others like "Empirical" and "Evidence-Based."
